ZESCO VANDALS WORRY KABANGWE RESIDENTS

SOME residents of Kabangwe area have called on the Zambia Police and Zescoto quickly investigate and arrest some people who are stealing Zesco cables.

Kabwe Kaoma, a resident of Kabangwe,  said  in an interview that the thefts were worrying and indicated that  some unpeople last week stole a service cable while  his family was  asleep.

“We thought power had gone but when we woke up in the morning we found that the service cable had been stolen.

“Zesco should move in to control the situation because we are not the only ones; just recently the same happened at a house in Mauzu.

“I think these people are the same so Zesco and Police should take action because it is getting out of hand, “ he said.

And when contacted for a comment, Zesco public relations manager John Kundasaid that the company wais aware of theft of service cables.

Dr Kunda described the situation as sabotage adding that the company has received reports from Mtendere, Kanyama and Masaiti.

He said that last week, 21 service cables were reported stolen in Mtendere adding that the situation is getting out of hand. 

He revealed that Zesco security in Kalulushi apprehended two juveniles for attempted vandalism at one of the substation while their father fled the scene.

Dr Kunda said that the father of a 14 year old and another one aged 12     fled the scene  upon noticing   Zesco security approaching. 

He said that after querying the juveniles, they confessed that they have been conducting the criminal acts with their father. 

Dr Kunda added that the suspects are in Police custody.

“In Lusaka Zesco security patrol team arrested two suspected vandals by the name of Ngosa Joseph aged 37 of Kalingalinga compound, an Armsafety worker and Robert Mpundu of Chipata compound allegedly found stealing cables at Dublin Station.
