THE operation directed by President Edgar Lungu has paid dividends because the city is looking extremely clean and people were conducting business in an orderly manner, says Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya.

Dr Chilufya said with dust bins being placed everywhere for the public to throw litter, there was a semblance of order which meant the military and civil operation had yielded Positive results.

Dr Chilufya said the cleanup by the defence forces in the Central Business District had helped to stop the further spread of cholera.

Dr Chilufya urged citizens to comply with all the measures as stipulated in the Statutory Instrument No. 79 of 2017 on the control measures designed to arrest the further spread of cholera.

He said this during a cholera update in Lusaka and called on the community to continue cooperating with the military personnel so that the epidemic can be defeated completely.

He thanked President Lungu for moving in quickly because many lives would have been lost. He also commended efforts and interventions instituted by multisectoral teams at all levels to curb the outbreak.

He said the Head of State was deeply concerned about the further spread of the epidemic which had since been contained as evidenced by epicentres which had continued to record reduced cases.

“I call it a civil and military operation because the community, marketeers and vendors themselves have played a big role in working together with our military personnel in cleaning up the city. I thank the military personnel for carrying out their work diligently,” said Dr Chilufya.
