TRADERS and suppliers of various products and services to sell quality and safe products during the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and help boost the country’s economy, the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has advised.

ZABS head of marketing and public relations, Hazel Zulu said it was important for the manufacturers and retailers to represent the country well.

Ms. Zulu said while it was important for the traders to capitalise on the market, it was important for them to uphold the standards of goods that they would be selling to the public.

“During events such as the AFCON, industries in general starting from the manufacturers to the retailers will be looking out to make significant increase in sales of various goods due to the inflow of people from the region and other countries, hence the need to sell quality products,” she said.

She urged suppliers of goods and services to be mindful of the quality and safety of products that they put on the market as they had the potential to build the county’s image.

She said the quality products sold by the country could earn the country a market for different goods beyond the AFCON and promote economic growth.

She advised local consumers to help dictate the quality of products on the market by shunning substandard products.

She said ZABS would continue with routine market surveillances and inspections on regulated products to ensure that only safe and reliable products are exposed to consumers.
