THE Patriotic Front leadership in North Western Province has warned party officials against engaging in illegal activities in the name of the party.

The warning follows the arrest and detention of the district chairperson for Mufumbwe Peter Kalundu by police for alleged illegal possession, cutting and transportation of the prohibited Mukula tree.

But on Saturday, Mr Kalundu decided to defect from PF to UPND in Kabwe during the party’s card renewal exercise for fear of being disciplined by the party.

PF provincial chairperson Jackson Kungo warned that the party will not tolerate indiscipline by allowing officials to engage in illegal activities that puts the name of the party into disrepute.

He said the party was known for discipline and order hence the need for every party official to respect what the party stands for.

He stated that the party will not protect anyone found engaging illegal activities in the name of the party.

Mr Kungo said he hoped Mr Kalundu’s arrest should serve as a warning to others using the name of the party with impunity.

And Mr Kungo has described the defection of Mr Kalundu as fake because he feared expulsion from the party for allegedly being involved in illegal activities.

He said Mr Kalundu was under disciplinary action and after realising that he would be expelled because of his criminal conduct he opted to quickly go to UPND and paint a picture as if he had defected to them.

‘’He knew he was going to expelled for putting the name of the party to disrepute because of his criminal activities hence opting to leave the party.

But is that defection genuine? The answer is no,’’ he said.
