Nation needs healing, reconciliation- Chief

By OLIVER SAMBOKOTHERE is need for true forgiveness and reconciliation between the current government and previous administration so that the country can heal from disunity which has the potential to cause civil strife if left unchecked, Chief Cooma of Choma has said.
The traditional leader observed that there is still an atmosphere of hurting and hate among political players which is not good for the country like Zambia that has enjoyed peace and harmony for many years.
He said it’s not a secret that following the 2015, presidential by-election and the 2016, general elections, the country witnessed heightened political tension which must now be dealt with to foster and promote peace and harmony in the country.
Chief Cooma said subjects in his chiefdom are very expectant of receiving development and not interested in political bickering among warring political parties.
The traditional leader said elections passed and therefore it’s now time for the country’s leaders at all levels to move in the same direction if meaningful development is to be achieved.
Chief Cooma warned that without forgiveness and unity, the country should forget about achieving the much needed development as contained in the 7th NDP and the draft 8th national Development plan.
“Without unity among ourselves, we should forget about achieving the developmental goals that we have set for ourselves,’ he said.
The traditional leader said there is need by those aggrieved with the manner the PF government treated them while in opposition to forgive their adversaries so that the country can move on from the current scenario where more energy is being spent on vengeance.
Chief Cooma also advised leaders in the previous administration to tone down and stop issuing provocative and demeaning statements against their colleagues in government, under the guise of freedom of expression and speech.
