A STATE witness yesterday told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that murder accused Precious Longwe loaded four bundles of K100 notes into two automated teller machines (ATMs).

Before Magistrate Thandose Chabala was Charity Kalyalya, 23, a former BancABC sales agent.

Ms. Kalyalya told the court that on May 24, 2016 she escorted Longwe to the ATMs.

She was testifying in a case in which Longwe is charged for theft by servant for allegedly stealing K200, 000 from BancABC

“Precious asked me to escort her to the ATM to load money but I refused because it was not one of my duties. I asked her to get permission from our supervisor Mr. Bernard Fungamwango. She came back and we went to the ATM.

“There were four bundles of money in the trunk. One bundle was loaded in one ATM and three bundles were loaded in the other ATM.

“I don’t know the amount and I didn’t see her put the money in her pockets or handbag. The money I saw in the trunk was all loaded in the ATMs,” Ms. Kalyalya said.

Longwe is also facing one count of murder for shooting her husband Akakanda Litebele five times in the chest.

In another court, Komboni Radio owner Lesa Kasoma Nyirenda told Magistrate Felix Kaoma that she bit a police officer on the arm out of desperation because of the pain the three police officers inflicted on her through beatings.

Kasoma said she resisted the officers’ attempt to drag her into Komboni Radio premises and in the process she sat on the gate where she held onto a bar as the officers beat her.

“His arms were next to my head when he tried to unlock my grip. He was twisting my hands in the opposite direction and due to the excessive pain I felt, I had to bite him on the lower arm,” Kasoma said.

She said this in cross examination in a case she has been put on her defence for assaulting a police officer on duty.

Kasoma is accused of biting one of the police officers who were manning the radio station after its broadcasting licence was suspended by the Independent Broadcasting Authority.
