HH UNBALANCED NOMINATION,APPOINTMENT QUESTIONED

By OLIVER SAMBOKO
LEADER of opposition in Parliament, Brian Mundubile has noted serious imbalances in the appointments being made by President Hakainde Hichilema which he says are not in conformity with article 259 of the constitution
Mr Mundubile said this in parliament during the Vice President’s question time, yesterday.
He said Zambians are concerned with the manner the appointments have been made without due regard to constitutional provisions.
He said article 259 of the constitution provides that the appointing authority should ensure 50 percent of each gender is nominated or appointed from the total available positions unless it’s not practical to do so.
Mr Mundubile also said the appointing authority should ensure equitable representation of youths and people with disabilities in decision-making positions.
He also said there is need for the appointments to reflect regional diversity of the people of Zambia.
But Vice President Mutale Nalumango said in terms of gender balance, President Hichilema has appointed a lot of women in key positions.
She also the President has tried by all means to ensure all regions are represented in the appointment.
Ms Nalumango assured the nation that under the new dawn government no one will be left behind and that appointments are still ongoing in the civil service.
