Indian businesses eye agro industry

INDIAN businesses have shown interest in developing farming and agro industries in Zambia with investments ranging from US$50,000 to US$ 10 million each.

The most promising proposals for immediate investments were the US$1,000,000 and US$10,000,000 developments with the teams coming by the end of March and May, 2017.

Other projects were the proposed aluminium waste recycling of all waste aluminium tins and off-cuts from various industry to pass through a complete process to manufacture various kitchenware and related products. Some Indian businesses were interested in solar products marketing with a view of supplying and production of long term panels in Zambia for various uses and applications.

This was made possible by the private sector and Government trade mission undertaken to India recently.

The private and public sector team was led by SVUM country representative Edwin Zulu.

The delegation attended an event held in their honour by the Gujarat State Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

At the event, Mr Zulu marketed Zambia’s agenda on agriculture diversification through the 10 proposed provincial farm blocks with 100,000 hectares each and 10,000 hectares for some chiefdoms.

It was at the same event where some Indian businesses expressed interests in developing farming and agro industries in Zambia with investments ranging from US$50,000 to US$ 10 million each.
