HAKAINDE Hichilema’s appetite for foreign support causes suspicion about his obsession to becoming Zambia’s president, former PF secretary general Edward Mumbi has observed.

Mr Mumbi said only Zambians can vote for the one who can become their leader and it brings great suspicion when Mr Hichilema claims to be seeking support from imperialists abroad.

“Mr Hichilema has clearly put it that he is going to seek support, but the question is what support? This is what is bringing suspicion because you cannot involve foreigners in ascending to the presidency.

“You appeal to the Zambians who are voters to ascend to the presidency but he has decided to go and seek support, can he explain what support he is seeking from our colonial masters?” he said.

He charged that it was no wander the Zambian people were suspicions of his desires to ascend to the top office, even if he said he does not need guns to fight injustices.

Mr Mumba explained that Mr Hichilema must tell the Zambian people what he intends to do for them, to sell himself in a proper manifesto which he must localize with local leadership otherwise he was embarrassing himself as a false alarmist.

He said it was not correct to involve foreign intervention in governance affairs of a sovereign state like Zambia and wondered what sort of intervention was being sought for.

Mr Mumbi said the UPND president must begin to outline those injustices he was accusing the PF of, so that it justifies his ranting. He said for all there was, Mr Hichilema has no message for the Zambian people other than his hunger to become president, but what was he going to do for the people in order for them to trust him and believe in him enough to vote for him.

“What injustice is there that he is making reference to? What is his message to the Zambians for him to be voted for? Because his message is that he should be president, but if he becomes president then what?

“So for people not to suspect him, he must localise his campaign like all other former presidents and what the sitting President has done to get voted,” he said. He advised the UPND president to adjust to local politics and tell Zambians what he was going to do for them to get voted, and not focus on disrespecting authority as he has done.

Mr Mumbi said Mr Hichilema must list the injustices which has forced him to seek foreign intervention.
