Agro Fuel only company using Tazama Pipeline, says OMCAZ

By NATION REPORTER

THE Oil Marketing Companies Association of Zambia (OMCAZ) says Government has only allowed Agro Fuel to use the Tazama Pipeline to transport finished petroleum products.

OMCAZ president, Kafula Mubanga, said other oil marketing companies (OMCs) applied but Government had not approved until now. Dr Kafula said it was prudent that Government expedited the amendment of the Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) Act to allow more OMCs to utilise the facility.

Dr Mubanga said the pipeline was the cheaper way of transporting petroleum products, therefore, all OMCs want to benefit. “What is on record, unless it has charged, is that Agro Fuel is the only which has been contracted to use the pipeline pending the approval of ZPPA amendment. We are not happy that it is only one company using the pipeline, so our appeal is that there is need to expedite the process for the amendment of ZPPA Act so that Tazama becomes a multi-user facility,” Dr Mubanga said.

In an interview, Dr Mubanga said the OMCs were eager to see to it that the process was completed as soon as possible so that they were able to bring the petroleum products in the country cheaply.
