Christian declaration must be maintained, says Shimunza – as he urges govt to come out strongly on homosexuality

We will be in trouble if we tamper with our Christian declaration during the constitutional review process, UPND Alliance spokesperson Daniel Shimunza has warned.

And Dr. Shimunza has urged the government to come out strongly on homosexuality because the practice was contrary to the national values and principles.

He said in an interview that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation was constitutional which the Presidency must uphold without any exception.

Dr. Shimunza said that all constitutional officers, including that of the Republican President should respect the fact that majority Zambians agreed to declare the country as a Christian nation.

He said tampering with the declaration in any way was an insult to the Zambians who decided to be governed by Christian values and principles.

“Majority of our citizenry and populace, overwhelmingly decided to be governed by Christian values and principles enshrined in the constitution, therefore all constitutional officers must be custodians of the wishes and aspirations of the Zambians,” he said.

And Dr. Shimunza urged the government to come out strongly on homosexuality which was against the values of Christianity.

He said the country should continue to promote the Christian values and principles as enshrined in Article (8) of the Constitution.
