Kalomo District receives DMMU relief

Kalomo has received relief mitigation supplies from the office of the Vice President for flood victims.
Kalomo District Commissioner Joshua Sikaduli said the package was meant for several households in the district.
He disclosed that 30 tents, 586 by 12.5 kg bags of mealie meal, 300 bags by 5 kg of rice, 80 by 50 kgs of beans,10 boxes of dates, 48 bottles of 250 ml of chlorine were items in the relief package.
He explained that the items were being distributed in all the five wards affected by the floods in Dundumwezi and Kalomo central areas.
He said so far some tents were already distributed to accommodate some families whose houses collapsed.
“Items received from the vice president’s office are going to be distributed in all the affected wards in the district to assist flood victims,” Mr Sikaduli said.
He said Water had begun to recede in some areas that got logged as a result of floods.
He has also urged the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit local committee to solicit services of the Zambia Air Force to airlift the consignment to the affected victims due to the bad road network.
Mr Sikaduli observed that there was going to be a challenge in delivering some relief to some areas due to the bad status of the roads.
The istrict has continued to receive heavy downpours with most crossing points in remote areas being cut off from central business.
