I’ll be making tough  decisions – Lungu

 I WILL be making tough decisions in the interest of the Zambian people because I have five years in which to convince them that my decisions are right, President Edgar Lungu has charged.

And President Lungu has charged that he is not going to be constrained by political or any other considerations in choosing the best people to serve the people of Zambia.

Speaking when he swore in National Coordinator Centre for Excellency, e-Governance and ICTs in Cabinet Office Dr. Martin Mtonga, President Edgar Lungu said he was not afraid of making difficult decisions.

“I have just been telling the farmers outside that I am not afraid of making difficult decisions but what makes people fear difficult decision making is usually elections being too close.

“But I will make decisions in the interest of the Zambian people because I have five years in which to convince them that I made the right decisions,” he said.

President Lungu said some decisions he made would begin bearing fruits in the next few years and that he would be able to explain to the people of Zambia his success story.

The Head of State, who congratulated Dr. Mtonga on his appointment to the Civil Service, told him (Dr. Mtonga) that he wanted him to be part of his government’s success story.

“Welcome to the Civil Service Dr. Mtonga. You are taking up a position which is very critical in our governance system as we have chosen to go the electronic way.

“Right now, ICT is the in thing but in Zambia we seem to be lagging behind in catching up particularly in

the Civil Service,” President Lungu said.

He reminded Dr. Mtonga that the job he was taking up required him do his best to expedite the implementation of e-governance in Cabinet Office and the whole spectrum of Government.

“And at the same time, let me also take advantage of using you as an example that I am not going to be restrained or constrained by political considerations or any other considerations in choosing the best to come and serve the people of Zambia.

“For those of you who are in the Civil Service, just work hard you will have your chance to rise while those outside the Civil Service, the doors are still open,” President Lungu said.

President Lungu explained that he was looking for ways of revamping the Civil Service.

“So welcome and please feel free to settle down quickly so that at the time we are getting out of this five year mandate which Zambians gave us in August last year, we will be pointing to you and e-governance as one of the success stories of our term of office,” he said.
