THE Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) have confirmed readiness to host the 2017 Japanese Ambassador Judo Championship at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka this Saturday.

ZJA general secretary Mabvuto Ng’uni in an interview said all logistics were in place to successfully stage the event which was expected to attract more than 150 judokas.

“We are ready to host this year’s Japanese Ambassador Judo Championship. Entries will close on Wednesday and the technical bench make draws on Thursday,” Ng’uni said.

He said the tournament will be used by the technical bench to evaluate the provisional national team which will compete at the 2018 Region Five Judo Championship.

He said the event would provide a platform to identify talent and assess Zambia’s technical progress.

“This is a major event which gives us an outlook of how far we have reached in the sport. We expect a tough competition,” he said.

Zambia Army are the defending champions after winning the title back-to back last year.
