COMMUNICATION is a vital tool in dissemination of information to the public, National Assembly of Zambia acting Clerk Cecilia Mbewe has observed.

Ms Mbewe noted that it was only through communication that the public would effectively participate in national governance processes.

Ms Mbewe was speaking at the launch of the 2017-2021 National Assembly of Zambia Communication Strategy in Lusaka yesterday.

Ms Mbewe indicated that since 2011, the communication strategy had identified important strategies of taking Parliament closer to the people by enhancing its engagement and interaction with various stakeholders.

“We realise the importance of communication in informing people and it is for this reason that the National Assembly of Zambia since 2011 developed communication strategies that help disseminate information about the activities of the institution.

“These strategies assist the National Assembly in creating public awareness of the activities of the institution thereby increasing people’s effective participation in national governance processes,” she said.

And Ms Mbewe also said the National Assembly would engage the media in the implementation of the communication strategy, as it was identified as a key tool in disseminating information on its work.
