Kalumbila farmers urged to adopt conversation agric

FARMERS in Kalumbila district have been urged to adopt conversation agriculture method to maintain a good environment for mankind.

Kalumbila district commissioner Robinson Kalota said the district has been constantly threatened by climatic changes that were impacting negatively on agriculture.

These include floods, droughts, and high temperatures which were resulting in food insecurity and poverty amid the people.

“This therefore calls for farming and mining technics that will increase yields sustainably, reduce pollution in rivers, reduce greenhouse gases emissions and reduce ecological degradation,” he said.

The district commissioner was speaking when he officiated at the first ever district Agriculture, Mining and Industrial Show which was held under the theme ‘’Promoting a Green Economy’’.

He said government would always support farmers by providing help even at critical moments.

“Like last season, government provided 180 litres of pesticides to farmers to control army worms,” he said.

He said government attached great importance to agriculture sector and sought to raise productivity and ensure that every household was food secure.

He urged cooperative societies in the district to become viable by taking part in the agricultural  activities through which the PF government was putting more money in the pockets of its citizens.
