Nkombo contemplates deploying army to curb boozing

GOVERNMENT has warned that it would consider deploying the military as an option to curb what it believes is the rising cases of alcoholism in the country should the Zambia Police fail to contain the indiscriminate consumption of alcohol.

Garry Nkombo, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development yesterday told Parliament that the army may be an option in an event the police fail to contain the rising alcoholism.

And Mr Nkomo has recalled that he got himself into trouble when he tried to reverse the trend of brewing illicit alcohol shortly after he had been appointed Minister.
