THE Green Party has expressed happiness that the Catholic Bishops have met President Edgar Lungu to initiate reconciliation with incarcerated UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

Green Party president Peter Sinkamba said the move by the Catholic Bishops could not have come at a better time than now.

Mr Sinkamba expressed hope that soon, the Bishops would bring the two leaders together for reconciliation.

He said there was an urgent need to restore unity and harmony in the nation for Zambia to regain her respect in Africa.

“Nothing is more important than reconciliation as  the Bible teaches us, that  if a person is about to offer a gift at the altar and remembers that he has something against his brother, he should leave his gift and be reconciled first to his brother and then come and offer his gift,” Mr Sinkamba said.

Mr Sinkamba said the time for pride and belligerency must be over because Zambia was a Christian nation which was founded on the principles of the gospel.

Mr Sinkamba said confusions will never take Zambia anywhere but mutual respect and spirit of reconciliation was what was needed for peace to prevail.

Mr Sinkamba said Zambia was known as the beacon of peace in Africa and beyond hence those who were  trying to divide the nation should be ignored because they were unpatriotic Zambians.
