EXPERT WITNESS NARRATES FINDING NSAMA BLEEDING PROFUSELY

By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

AN expert witness in the killing of Public Prosecutor, Nsama Nsama  and UPND member, Joseph Kaunda, narrated how he found the prosecutor’s body  lying at the restaurant  door bleeding from the nose, mouth and chest while the other victim’s body had already been removed by police and only his brain matter had remained.

The scene of crime expert  told the Lusaka High Court that one live ammunition and 25 cartridge casings were picked during the investigations of the shooting to death of State Prosecutor Nsama Nsama and UPND supporter Joseph Kaunda on December 23, 2020.

This is in a matter where a police officer Fanwell Nyundu, 25, of Matero police camp is facing two counts of murder.

Testifying before Judge Joshua Banda yesterday, scene of crime expert, Superintendent Harry Siakanyati of Zambia Police Service  told the court that when the investigations team arrived at the scene, they found Mr Nsama’s body at the Pa Kabinet  restaurant door with his head facing the Northern direction and was  heavily bleeding from the nose, mouth and the chest.

Mr Siakanyati added that the victim’s left leg was folded on top of the right one and hands were spread across the floor.

He stated that after inspecting the body, it was discovered that the bullet entered from the left side of the body on the breast and exited from the back.

He said they did not find the other victim,  Kaunda’s body at the scene but only his brain tissue remained on the road.   Kaunda’s body had already been taken to the University teaching hospital by the Police.

Mr Siakanyati said that from their investigation, the bullet that killed both victims may have come from the Western direction where Zambia Police vehicle were parked or Southern direction.

He said the preliminary findings show that the victims were killed by one bullet.

“The basis of the opinion is cartridges were fired from the cenotaph where the vehicles were parked, and the six cartridges at the entrance of cabinet office were direct to Nsama who was in the corridors of the restaurant which has a window and there were no obstructions on the way.  Nsama was huge and tall from the feet to the entry wound it measured 1.65 meters and  1.60 meters from the exit wound to the feet.  It exited the window and hit Kaunda whose height was 1.6 meters,” he said.

He stated that the 25 cartridges were picked at different locations which include the Cabinet office entrance, ZICTA offices, and at the cenotaph at the roundabout.
