A DEEP hole has developed on Mundanya bridge on Mundanya river in Manyinga district of North Western Province due to heavy rains which threatens to render it too risky for crossing.

Manyinga district commissioner Queen Manela said her office has already written to the provincial Road Development Agency (RDA) in Solwezi concerning the damage to the bridge.

She said the damage has been worsened by the frequent accidents occurring at the bridge. Apart from the hole, part of the road leading to the bridge has developed serious cracks.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, area councillor Greg Kapenda described the bridge as risky as it posed a danger to both motorists and pedestrians. He said if the bridge collapsed it would mean Manyinga, Kabompo, Zambezi and Chavuma districts will be cut off from the rest of the province. And the situation has saddened other civic leaders in the district.     Mr Kapenda said he has informed the local authority and the district administration about the state of affairs regarding the bridge.
