Chief Mulungwe area gets solar mills

GOVERNMENT has in- stalled two solar powered hammer mills in Chief Mulungwe’s chiefdom in Mkushi.

The move has cheered residents in the area who have commended the government for its commitment to improve their livelihood.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, Kalwa ward councillor, Gerald Man- da, said government has also approved another solar hammer mill project which would be installed later, saying the gesture had brought about joy in the area. Mr. Manda said government has given its people the project they wanted and had every reasons to be happy.

Mr. Manda explained that, establishment of two solar hammer mill plants in the area

would create job opportunities and improve social and economic development of the local people.

“The beauty part of the in- stalled solar powered hammer mill plants is that, they have the capacity to light households in the nearby area. They will also be the source of cheaper mealie meal for people in the ward,” Mr. Manda said.

Mr Manda said, apart from that, the advent of solar hammers mills in the area would cut down long distances people covered to grind their maize from private-owned diesel hammer mills and would be the source of cheaper mealie meal.

Mr. Manda appealed to people who will be entrusted to manage the milling plants to guard them jealously as they are income generating ventures.
