WOODLANDS Extension residents have complained to Lusaka City Council (LCC) about the mushrooming of illegal bars owned by foreigners being a nuisance and operating beyond stipulated hours.

The residents said one of the bars was situated along Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Road just after the National Housing Authority (NHA) offices.

“We are calling on Lusaka City Council to look into this matter because is it disturbing our neighborhood,” said a concerned resident.

He said that the foreign bar owners have been defying the law and should be brought to book.

“These foreigners have got no regard or respect for the people living in this area, they only do things as they like without any remorse,” said another concerned resident.

The residents, who refused to give their names for fear of repercussions, said they had no power to handle the issue and appealed to the council to act on the matter.

“I will not tell you my name for the fear of being hunted down, these foreigners are violent,” said one resident.

And Lusaka City Council public relations manager, Habeenzu Mulunda said the council was not aware of bars operating in Woodlands as it was a well-planned area.

He also said upon knowing the location of the bars, LCC officers will carry out inspections to make sure law and order was maintained.
