MMD president Nevers Mumba’s sympathizers yesterday spent a night outside Woodlands Police station in protest and solidarity against his arrest and incarceration.

ZDDM president Edwin Sakala said the incarceration of Dr Mumba was a harbinger of things to come and that no one would be spared.

Earlier a strong contingent of armed police sealed off Leopards Hill Road as Dr Mumba was being interrogated and subsequently arrested and charged with three counts of abuse of office while he was Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada.

On lookers were treated to  a rare sight as police cordoned off the road leading to the  police station, thereby disrupting the flow of traffic. Motorists were forced to use alternative routes.

Dr Mumba is alleged to have willfully failed to comply with laid down procedures in receiving and disbursing Canadian dollars, a donation to the Zambian government by a private company called Barrick Gold Corporation.

The MMD president has been arrested for the third time in less than two months on accusations of abuse of authority relating to his service more than a year ago as Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada.

Joint government investigations team public relations officer Namukolo Kasumpa confirmed Mumba’s arrest who is expected to appear in court today.
