EXDOUS Boxing Academy is scouting for K431, 000 to stage an international tournament this November 18 at Government complex in Lusaka.

At a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Academy director Antony Mwamba said the tournament will be used to gauge local boxers’ maturity to fight for World titles.

“We have so far raised K50, 000 out of the K431, 000 total budget, following a donation by Gladiator Fitness. This is an important tournament that will see the unveiling of next world champions,” Mwamba said.

He thanked Gladiator Fitness for the K50, 000 cash, six pairs of gloves and other boxing attire donated for the planned event.

And Gladiator Fitness manager Kate Sibale said the company is excited to partner with the Academy in grooming Zambia’s next world champions.

“We have seen the work Exodus is doing in promoting the sport. They have produced a female champion in Esther Phiri. It’s their great works that inspired us to partner with them,” Sibale said.

Mwamba has announced the graduation of super feather weight Simon Ngoma from amateur ranks to professional level.

He said Ngoma is enough to fight at professionally.

“This is one boxer I am nurturing for the world title. The boy is deadly and has qualities of a world champion. I have no doubt that by 2020, the boy will be a force to reckon with internationally,” he said.

Ngoma‘s debut fight will be against Copperbelt based Joseph Chewe at the same November 18 event.

Anosi Temfuma will fight Lembani Lano of Malawi in a non-title cruiser weight bout while welter weight Sheriff Kasongo will trade punches with another Malawian Samuel Deo.

In the lightweight category, Ali Ntumba will box Kalage Suba. Another light weight Rafael Kasoma is also on the bill and will face an opponent yet to be advised.
