THE presidential motorcade fracas with UPND leadership in Mongu should be blamed over the lapse in security, says Chief Chipepo of the Tonga people of Southern Province.

Chief Chipepo charged that the security should take the entire blame for what happened in Mongu.

He told the Daily Nation in an interview that it was illogical for the Police to arrest the opposition leader, when the security were wrong.

The traditional leader stressed that the security failed in their duties to protect the President, hence endangering his life.

He said it was the responsibility of the security to ensure that the road was completely clear and safe for the Presidential motorcade to pass.

“Where was security when all that was happening? They knew that the President was going to use the road and they were supposed to remove every obstruction in advance before the President uses the road, but they did not do that why?  What did they want to do to our President?,

“The problem is the security, they failed to do their duty. If a security guard is on duty and he allows the enemy in to attack the boss, who is to blame? It’s obviously the security guard who opened the gate, so in this case the security are to blame,” Chief Chipepo said.

He has demanded that security be disciplined for failing to protect the President.

Police in Lusaka have since arrested Mr. Hichilema and charged him with treason.
