THE rehabilitation of the ‘once impassable’ Mwinilunga-Jimbe road is a positive move which will ease the transportation of both goods and people, North-Western Province deputy permanent secretary Alfred Chingi has said.

Mr Chingi said the road rehabilitation works which were being done by a local contractor Freca Mining and Manufacturing Company were progressing well and the people in the area had expressed satisfaction with the quality of works.

He said in an interview in Ikelenge district that the road rehabilitation works were being done under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

“As you can see, the contractor is working on the 106 kilometres Mwinilunga-Jimbe road. The construction works are progressing well. The road is under the PPP arrangement.

“When completed, the road will lead to the sea through Angola, therefore, making it easy for the transportation of both goods and people from Mwinilunga up to Jimbe on the border with Angola. I must say the rehabilitation of this road is a positive development,” Mr Chingi said.

And some motorists talked to, told the Daily Nation that they were happy with the rehabilitation works on the road, but urged Government to continue working on other roads which were in bad state.

The motorists said the rehabilitation of the Mwinilunga-Jimbe road was a progressive step which Government had taken.

“Previously, this road, the same Mwinilunga-Jimbe road was impassable, but with the rehabilitation works now, things are looking much better because the road is passable and buses are reaching Ikelenge.

“Government should continue with this development. It should also work on other roads in the province which are in bad state,” said the motorists.
