MOPANI Copper Mines last evening had to evacuate its miners following the Copperbelt Energy Corporation’s decision to cut off power leaving only enough for essential operations.
The move follows Mopani Copper Mine’s refusal to to pay for power under new tariffs.
The new tariffs were were effected when ZESCO increased its tariffs.
According to sources, the power was due to be cut off after the evacuation of workers from the mines.
“They will remain with enough just for essential powering,” the source said.
However, the mining firm the increase was against their Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
