RESIDENTS of Humphrey Mulemba Villa Park have appealed to Solwezi Municipal Council to consider setting up a market in that area to decongest Kyawama market.

Some residents talked to by the Daily Nation said there is need for the local authority to consider setting up a market for the people of that township.

Mr Jimmy Kakisa said Kyawama market is too congested as people from all nearby compounds trade from there.

‘’And it is this same congestion that leads even fatalities because people walk aimlessly without considering traffic,’’ he said.

Mr Martha Mobela, another trader at Kyawama market also said the population in Humphrey Mulemba Villa Park has increased hence the need to set up a market.

What is more painful is that even for small commodities someone has to walk to Kyawama market. Really, something has to be done for the people of this area,’’ she said.

Mrs Josephine Mwape said setting a market in that area would be a good idea because it will also cartter for the residents of Highland compound and Airport compound.

She said since its establishment in 2012, the area has no market though the population has increased.

Meanwhile, Ms Mwape has also appealed to relevant authorities to establish a police post in the area.

She said with the increase in population, criminal activities are likely to start occurring
