NO political leader can get to power through sabotage or intimidation of citizens by destroying their livelihood, National Respiration Party secretary general Ezra Ngulube.

Mr Ngulube said politicians must know that the Zambian people would not give in to intimidation and destruction of property as a means to putting leaders into office.

“The only way to come into power in Zambia is through the ballot. No politician can get into power through sabotage and intimidation through destruction of public property.

“And we are warning all those involved in the criminal acts that all that they are doing is only affecting the lives of poor Zambians because none of these politicians are selling in public markets like the Lusaka City Market,” he said.

He said none of the politicians had a stand at City Market or at any of the places they could target for sabotage, but that such acts of destruction to property was inflicting untold pain and misery on lives of innocent hard working Zambians.

And Mr Ngulube has appealed to the public to assist the police to bring the tension that had gripped the country to an end.

He said there was need for all the people to get involved in safeguarding public structures including the protection of innocent lives which have fallen victim of the recent acts of sabotage.

He said the Police Service could not manage to provide security for every corner of the country, but that they needed assistance from ordinary members of the public in order for the operations to be successful.

“There is need to beef up police security by ordinary people joining in to help with security at public places, as well as just being alert of what is happening around us.

“It takes all of us to provide security, and police alone cannot manage to be in all the places at the same time. We must play our part as responsible and well-meaning Zambians,” he said.

He said that it was unfair that we should expect so much from the police when they were only a handful, but that it would be prudent if all citizens took turns and assisted police in maintaining the peace and unity the country has enjoyed since independence.
