THE Linda Kasonde-led Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has continued to come under fire with an opposition political party leader blasting its current leadership and described it as unprofessional.

New Congress Party (NCP) leader, Peter Chanda charged that LAZ under its current leadership lacked professionalism and had failed to give Zambians proper direction on several important national issues.

He charged that the LAZ leadership was an agent of the cartel, adding that there was need for lawyers to consider impeaching its president to restore order.

The NCP leader was reacting to the recent questions raised by LAZ on circumstances that led to the invocation of Article 31 by President Lungu.

Pastor Chanda has expressed disappointment in the manner LAZ has conducted itself on several important national issues and its lack of objectivity.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Pastor Chanda charged that LAZ chose to deliberately plant doubt in people’s minds in order to please the political party it supports.

Pastor Chanda said LAZ should provide balanced information on national matters.

Pastor Chanda also called for sanity in LAZ, and asked its leadership to desist from politicking on national matters if it is to retain public confidence.

“We as a party are disappointed by LAZ’s lack of objectivity. The current leadership without doubt is an agent of the cartel.

“The Linda Kasonde-led executive is uninspiring. LAZ should be seen to stop playing politics on important national matters.

“It is really shocking that the LAZ can be raising questions on circumstances that led to the invocation of Article 31 of the constitution, when any sensible person can see that it was a wise and timely action by the President.

“This simply shows that the current LAZ leadership is politically inclined and that’s unfortunate,” he said.

He said LAZ should concentrate on providing legal guidance to people on important national legal matters than engage in politics.
