Kalulushi pushes for new CBD

KALULUSHI Mayor Rashida Mulenga has said a well planned Central Business District (CBD) will set the stage for quality investment which would improve the lives of people through job creation and business opportunities.

Ms Mulenga said the local authority was sure that, with the input of various stakeholders, the district would put up a well planned CBD which would bring pride to various stakeholders in the district.

She was speaking at Umulu Lodge in Kalulushi during the stakeholder meeting aimed at coming up with a roadmap on how the mammoth programme would yield the desired results of beautifying the town and increase job opportunities as well as attaining the vision of the city status by 2030.

“As a municipality, we think it was imperative that a new CBD come up in Kalulushi which would attract value-addition investment and create employment for the local people. A well planned CBD will set the stage for quality investment which would improve the lives of people through job creation and business opportunities.

“This is why we decided to hold this stakeholders’ meeting so that various stakeholders could help to come with a good road roadmap on how the mammoth programme would yield the desired results of beautifying the town and increase job opportunities as well as attaining the vision of the city status by 2030,” Ms Mulenga said.

The workshop was attended by Kalulushi Member of Parliament Kampamba Mulenga, former MP Anthony Mwila, former mayors and counclilors, civil society organisations, the church, marketeers, Nkana Water and Sewerage Company and other relevant stakeholders.

Speaking later, Chibuluma Mines PLC country nanager Jackson Sikamo said the project was coming after a collaboration between the local authority and Chibuluma Mines PLC.

Mr Sikamo said Kalulushi residents should support the initiative of the CBD which would attract investment from credible  investors.

“This project deserve to be supported by all Kalulushi residents because if it succeeds, then the residents benefit. This project needs innovative ideas,” Mr Sikamo said.

The establishment of the new CBD was one of the promises the Kalulushi mayor had made during her campaigns in the August 11, 2016 elections.

During her campaigns, Ms Mulenga said she would lobby for the establishment of new industries in Kalulushi and empowerment of women and youths.

and creating employment for the youths in the area.

She said it was her desire to improve the economic situation of Kalulushi by striving to create opportunities for the people in the area, especially the women and youths.
