UNITY KEY TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, SAYS HH

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated the need for national unity as a means to achieving the economic transformational agenda and deliver development to Zambians.

Mr Hichilema was speaking on Sunday in Monze, when he graced the Samu Lya Moomba Traditional ceremony of the Tonga speaking people of chief Choongo in Souther province.

This year’s ceremony was held under the theme “Re-Kindling the Spirit of Samu Lya Moomba for Socio- Economic Recovery.”

The Head of state said the Samu Lya Moomba heritage site held a special place in the country’s history as it was the location the freedom fighters from across Zambia met to strategise on the attainment of the country’s independence from Britain.

He said it was the duty of all Zambians to actualize the dream of the forefathers by working towards the betterment of the people and that is could only be achieved where there was unity and dedication among Zambians.

President Hichilema also said through the decentralisation policy, the UPND government was committed to ensuring that critical services such as livestock testing facilities for animal diseases were brought to the communities. 

Earlier the head of state paid a courtesy call on Chief Choongo, before touring Exhibition mounted by the National Heritage Conservation Commission and the Choma Museum. 

The Samu Lya Moomba National Heritage celebration is an annual National event celebrated by not only the Tonga People of Bweengwa but Nation at large owing to its role played between the years 1951 to 1962.
