UPND IS LYING

…the Ministry of Health has not stopped them from holding a rally in Munali. GOVERNMENT has not stopped the opposition UPND from holding a rally in Munali because there is no cholera outbreak there, Ministry of Health spokesperson Max Bweupe has clarified.

But UPND spokesperson, Charles Kakoma told the Daily Nation that the opposition party canceled its planned rally in Munali following instructions by the Ministry of Health to do so.

Dr Bweupe however said that the ministry had not stopped any political party from holding rallies anywhere apart from Kanyama where cholera cases had been recorded.

He said that the UPND had only been told to cancel their planned rally in Kanyama as the ministry could not let people gather in large numbers when there was a cholera alert.

“In Kanyama there is an active outbreak of cholera which we have been managing and the technical guidance we have given is that it is not possible to have such a large gathering of people in an area where there is active combating of an outbreak of cholera.

“There has been no blanket ban issue by the Ministry of Health, banning any political parties from having rallies. So it is not the correct position that the ministry has had anything to do with the cancelation of a rally by the concerned parties,” said Dr Bweupe.

Meanwhile, Mr Kakoma also insisted that the rally in Munali was cancelled under the instructions of the ministry.

He said that UPND had a meeting last Thursday with officials from Ministry of Health where they were told to cancel the rally.

And Dr Bweupe has maintained that he was not aware of any meeting at the ministry involving UPND officials.
