Dear Editor,

I wish to express my dissatisfaction with the conduct of medical personnel at Chilenje  Level 1 Hospital.

The letter published in your paper, Monday edition, May 22, over the death of a pregnant mother following the astonishing negligence of the medical personnel at this hospital cannot pass without condemnation.

I cannot dispute this letter because nurses at this hospital are extremely rude and uncaring.

I say so because my wife gave birth there and I witnessed their levels of insensitivity and lack of respect for people.

The manner they handled us wasn’t pleasing at all. If such people are given the care of the sick people, surely, how will they attend to them? This also reduces chances of longevity and healing.

I wish to appeal to Government through the Ministry of Health, specifically minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya to educate these people on the way they ought to handle people because their conduct is tremendously annoying.

Let this case of a pregnant mother who died be investigated.  Gone are the days when a nurse would be smiling while attending to a patient?

These days when she is treating you, her face is showing uncaring disposition and you expect a patient to heal like this.

If they are not interested in serving the Zambian people, it is high time they leave their offices.

We cannot have such people in the civil service.  Nowadays, if you do not have money to go to the private hospital or clinic, you just feel like going for the traditional medicine because government health workers are so impolite, insolent, uncouth, disrespectful and ill-mannered.

Someone once said ‘Staff mistreat patients in public clinics while in private clinics, you wish to get sick so that you are treated like a baby’.
