RE-OPENING CHEERS CBU STUDENTS

By KETRA KALUNGA
THE re-opening of universities has cheered students at the Kitwe-based Copperbelt University, a student leader has said.
President Edgar Lungu yesterday announced the reopening of all schools, colleges, and universities during the opening of parliament.
COBUSU president, Lawrence Kasonde, said the students have eagerly been waiting the reopening of learning institutions because not all had access to e-learning as many of them come from vulnerable families.
Mr Kasonde said during an interview with ZNBC at parliament building shortly after the Presidential address that e-learning or virtual learning came with its own challenges to students from low-income homes.“It’s something that every student has been waiting to hear because only the privileged are the ones that are able to access virtual learning, students from vulnerable families have challenges to access e-learning.
“This is because they are certain things that you need to put in place for you to access e-learning, things like gadgets, data, the load shedding schedule has also been unpredictable,” he said. He has thus urged students to take personal responsibility in adhering to the public health guidelines to prevent themselves and others from contracting Covid-19. Mr Kasonde said the Covid-19 guidelines should never be neglected by any student because the disease was real.
“We will ensure that the students follow the guidelines that the Ministry of Health has put in place and see to it that the institution has hand-washing and other facilities because Covid-19 is real,” he said.
