ATTACKS on security wings and especially the characterisation of police as PF thugs by UPND president Hakainde Hichilema are baseless and meant to tarnish their image, National Revolution Party (NRP) president Cozmo Mumba has charged.

Dr Mumba said that attacks by Mr Hichilema were not targeted at mere junior officers but intended  to portray Mr Kampyongo as having failed to run the affairs of the ministry and for him to be fired.

“The attacks are not targeted at mere junior officers but are aimed at portraying a picture that Mr Kampyongo has failed to run the affairs of the ministry and must be fired.

‘’We are aware of a meeting HH had but let him leave Kampyongo alone. I want Mr Hakainde Hichilema to challenge me if five days ago at a known location he did not meet people with intent to discredit the Ministry of Home Affairs; we have evidence of what he said, and we are already ahead of him,’’ Dr Mumba alleged.

Dr Mumba said that NRP was disappointed that Mr Hichilema had continued to demean public institutions he desired to one day govern.

He said that he had information of a meeting that the opposition leader had five days ago at a known location with some people which he said was aimed at discrediting Mr Kampyongo but stated that he was ahead of Mr Hichilema.

In the Mast newspaper, Mr Hichilema branded security officers as PF cadres in uniforms who were unprofessional and a danger to national security.

Dr Mumba urged Mr Hichilema to publicly declare his interest in security matters of the nation and to say if he had a personal vendetta against the minister.

He said that Mr Kampyongo had run the affairs of the ministry professionally and cited how he handled the Post Newspaper issue and instilled discipline among the men and women in uniform.

Dr Mumba said that Mr Kampyongo, who is Patriotic Front Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament, was supposed to be given ample time and space to carry out his duties.

He said that in the history of the country, apart from then Minister of Home Affairs now republican President Edgar Lungu, Mr Kampyongo had carried out his duties exemplarily.
