ENEMIES of President Edgar Lungu are hiring youths on the Copperbelt to rebel against existing structures in the region in a well-orchestrated scheme meant to dismantle the Patriotic Front (PF), Copperbelt youth chairperson Nathan Chanda has revealed.

Mr. Chanda said he has been receiving reports that some people were luring the youths with money to rebel against the current leadership with the hope of brewing confusion in the party.

He, however, said the enemies of progress would not prevail because the youths understood that President Lungu meant well for them.

He said it was politically and morally wrong for anyone to plan to succeed the current party leadership when its mandate had not yet expired, adding that the party would not be shaken by such opportunists who were obsessed with wanting to be in leadership before their time.

He reiterated that the Copperbelt would remain President Lungu’s political haven and would give him the maximum support that he needed because he had demonstrated his ability to develop Zambia, saying those muscling themselves for a takeover were simply ploughing the sand.   “There are people phoning the youths and asking them to rebel against the President but they have not managed. Our youths are telling me what is happening in every district. There are people who are trying to confuse the youths on the Copperbelt but we have no vacancy in the party, not even at the top. It is time to work and not politick.

“I assure you that the Copperbelt remains a stronghold for President Lungu. For those who are positioning themselves to inherent the presidency, I want to tell them that it’s traditionally wrong to plan to succeed someone who is still alive,” Mr. Chanda said.

Mr. Chanda, who is also Luanshya mayor, further said he was aware of certain individuals who were frustrating Government’s efforts to improve the agriculture sector and warned that Government would not sit idle and watch them sabotage agriculture programmes.

He pledged support to President Lungu and the party and that the youths on the Copperbelt would continue propagating Government’s vision of making Zambia a better place for all.

“As PF youths on the Copperbelt, we will remain resilient and we have resolved to support the able leadership of President Lungu because he has demonstrated that he has the interests of the youths at heart,” he said.
