Zambia needs electric trains – Prof Chirwa

PROFESSOR Clive Chirwa, a Zambian engineer based in the United Kingdom says had it not been for the absurdity of Zambians, the country could have had the best electric rail system in Africa by now, long before Tanzania.

Prof. Chirwa said by March of 2024, Zambia could have celebrated 15 years of electric trains had it not been the senselessness of the country’s politicisation of economic infrastructure development.

He was speaking in a phone interview from the United Kingdom where he is based.

“We missed the chance the Chinese had offered us and so we sold our railway construction plan to Senegal. Now it is up to Government to get the train going,” Prof Chirwa said.
