Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has highly praised construction companies for their efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the Zone Six Games by Zambia.
Kambwili said most of the constructions works were on course and will be completed well in time for the games next month.
“I am impressed with the contractors who are all on target with their works. We are ready for the games. I have already seen visiting teams training on new facilities and appreciating the organizers who have made it possible,” he said
He urged all sports ladies and men who are representing Zambia in this years games to work hard and mint medals for Zambia.
He said that it should be a challenge for every sports man and woman to dedicate their efforts to mother land and use the home ground advantage to win medals.
Kambwili said that his ministry will always support every sport in the country to lift the standards of sporting activities in the country.
He said that government was keen to develop many minor sports so that they moved at the same pace with soccer which was number one sport everywhere in the world.
He said amateur boxers will have a chance to show the world what they were capable of doing and emulate two female world professional boxers Catherine Phiri and Easter Phiri.
The minister said that all the participants in all minor sports will have an opportunity to show case their skills and achieve something for their country.
“As the host nation we should have more medals than any country competing in this year’s games,” he said.
Countries taking part in the event are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Seychelles South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe and the host Zambia.
The disciplines for competition include basketball, boxing, football, judo, netball, tennis and swimming which will be held at different venues in Lusaka.
