TEN trainees in Kitwe have been engaged to help with the disbursement of the E-voucher visa cards to more than 9,000 farmers in the area in preparation for this farming season, an agricultural expert has said.
Kitwe district agricultural coordinator Raphael Muyaule said the 9,000 farmers are scheduled to receive the farming inputs through the electronic system.
ZANIS reports that Dr Muyaule said in an interview yesterday that preparations have reached an advanced stage and that farmers will start receiving their cards in the coming week.
He said at least 9,055 farmers will benefit in the district from the E-voucher system, adding that ‘‘despite the claims that it has been late the beauty of the system will give farmers an opportunity to decide which seed or variety to plant’’ this season.
Dr Muyaule said eight agro dealers have been engaged and were ready to attend to farmers who will be swiping for the farming inputs.
He asked farmers to be patient, saying they will receive the vouchers by next week.
The development is part of Government’s agriculture policy aimed at motivating farmers to help uplift their wellbeing, thereby boost agriculture which is intended to become the country’s mainstay of the economy.
