EXPECT A MORE SPIRITED BARCLAYS CUP NEXT YEAR

BARCLAYS Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to making the Barclays Cup tournament more competitive next year.

Head of marketing and corporate relations Mato Shimabale said the bank will work together with FAZ and other stakeholders to develop the game of football in Zambia.

Speaking at a media luncheon at the Hotel Intercontinental in Lusaka, Shimabale was happy the 2017 edition was a success.

“We remain committed to supporting the development of soccer in Zambia. The last 11 years have been amazing and we hope to improve on that success,” he said.

He commended the media for the good coverage of the competition which had contributed to its success.

Super Sport Southern regional manager Marlon Kananda hailed Barclays for helping improve the standards of the game by sponsoring the only cup tournament in Zambia.

“Barclays has done a commendable job in contributing to the game. Football is one sport that has being managed well and Super Sport is proud to be associated with Barclays Cup,” he said.

During a free discussion, Times of Zambia deputy sports editor Shamaoma Musonda called for increased marketing of the tournament to attract more fans.

Zanaco scooped the 2017 Barclays Cup edition after beating Napsa Stars 2-1 in a final played at National Heroes Stadium last month.
