WE have a lot of chameleons in Zambia’s political parties today, especially in the UPND, and urgent fumigation is required, says former UPND vice-president for politics Canisius Banda.

Dr Banda said UPND was like a chameleon, which he noted was a very self-centred creature and only cared about its own survival.

He was reacting to claims by UPND that ‘there were no permanent enemies in politics,”  in relation to expelled Roan PF Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili seeking forgiveness.

Dr Banda said the party was only saying this to sanitise their past and facilitate their own survival. He said as politicians grow new organisations to relaunch their frenzied ambitions at growing their egos, “you will hear them talk about putting President Lungu in jail.”

He said there was a lot of deception at play. Deception will remain deception.

“Like most crooked politicians, the chameleon moves from place to place, ever changing its appearance to suit the moment and fool its prey ever looking for the opportunity for the kill,” said Dr Banda.

Dr Banda warned that even when a chameleon looks like part of its new environment, it is all a ruse, all camouflage, and that the chameleon remains dangerous and lethal.

He reiterated that some politicians lack principles and that they themselves were not even aware of this critical deficiency.

Dr Banda charged that there were a lot of chameleons in Zambia’s political parties today, especially in the UPND, and that urgent fumigation was required.

“We have a lot of chameleons in Zambia’s political parties today, especially in the UPND, and urgent fumigation is required. Barring a cleansing process, Zambia will remain in danger and on tenterhooks. Many of the politicians claiming that ‘there are no permanent enemies in politics’ are only saying this to sanitise their past and facilitate their own survival,” he said.

Dr Banda warned that like many politicians in Zambia today, chameleons would remain deceptive and dangerous. He said that they were totally devoid of the substance that leaders were made of and that they had an insatiable appetite for self-aggrandisement and boundless greed.

“Already as they seek new organisations to relaunch their frenzied ambitions at growing their egos you will hear them talk about putting President Lungu in jail. When did vengeance become a motivation for leadership? How come these evil-laden citizens are not aware that vengeance belongs to God?” he questioned. Dr Banda also said that in as much as people should be given an opportunity to change and be born again, they change only their appearance but remain malicious and evil inside.
