THE Esther Lungu Foundation has donated six wheelchairs and foodstuffs to Special Olympics Zambia (SOZ) to enhance sport development among athletes with intellectual disability.

Foundation national coordinator Mildred Chuumbu assured the Special Olympics of her office’s continued support by engaging children with disabilities in sport, health and other life-style programmes.

“The First Lady Esther Lungu was looking at identifying more needy athletes to benefit from the wheelchairs and food support programmes,” Chuumbu said.

SOZ board vice- chairperson Clement Chileshe, said the organisation would continue to reach out to more people with and without intellectual disabilities and see to it that they bring joy and happiness to them.

“I urge family members, school teachers and others to face the challenges society throws at them in their efforts to provide the best possible life styles for the athletes with disabilities,

“SOZ will continue to contribute through its various programmes and partners in their efforts,” Chileshe said.

One of the recipients Mike Banda, from Highland School applauded the First Lady for coming to their aid and affirmed his firm commitment and hard work towards participation in sports and education.
