POLICE DO NOT MEAN WELL

By Editor,

Government must realize that many senior police officers do not mean well for this government as they have divided loyalties.

unless a serious purge is carried out, the government will continue to be embarrassed locally and beyond because seemingly political arrests will always end in the acquittal of the suspects.

The loss of political cases in courts of law is just one ex-ample of the lack of professional integrity in the Police Service, but even more visible is the disregard of blatant corruption and impunity by the Police command which has failed to bring to book or dismantle the corrupt traffic section.

Transparency International has fingered our Police as the most corrupt section of the public service and yet absolutely nothing has changd. If anything things are even getting worse.

As at Saturday and Sunday last week, traffic police mounted road blocks on Cairo Road!

What kind of nonsense is this?

It is common knowledge over which jokes are being made that road blocks are nothing more than fundrising ventures for the police.

This is a reality that motorists experience everyday and undoubtedly officers from the anti-corruption commission have equally fallen victim to this corruption.

One would have expected the police command to take action, but zero, it just gets worse.

This type of impunity is indicative of the malaise in the Police Service which has seen Government embarrassed many times because cases are poorly investigated to ensure acquittals in courts..

For example; it is common knowledge that a combination of Potassium Permanganate and Glycerine leads to a com-bustible substance that leads to a fire. This has not been made public. If people knew about this chemical reaction, they would have helped the Police in many inquiries over fire outbreaks.

This is simple chemistry which students learn at secondary school and yet the Police have failed to utilise their ad-vantage to educate the public.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Stephen Kampyongo  should be aware that those uniformed officers we saw flashing the opposition symbol while in uniform are very much in the service and will do everything possible to subject the government.

Zambians are waiting for action and not promises of clean-ing the system.
