WHO WILL TAME THE POLICE

Dear Editor,

Has the Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Kampyongo failed to tame the Police?

In my view he has failed otherwise we would not have had the situation where traffic police would mount a high speed chase in a crowded area resulting in a fatality.

Zambians have called on the Government to disband the traffic section because it is corrupt and a source of anger but nothing has been done. We still have Lusaka traffic Police mounting Road blocks on Lumumba Road, Great East Road and other very busy roads. This is done in the name of checking for tax, fitness and insurance. Ultimately motorists are harassed and made to part with money for” coca cola”.

The riot in Ndola must serve as a wakeup call to the political leadership of this country to realise that they will be judged very harshly if they continue to allow the Police to display corruption on the streets.

We all expect our political leaders to be sensitive to the cries of the people by responding quickly to situations which tend to tarnish the image of the Government.

Corruption in any form must be combated very vigorously. The corruption on the streets which are now being treated as ATMs must be dealt with very vigorously. Michael Harawa
