NEVERS Mumba is the last person to claim he is there to help President Edgar Lungu resolve conflicts when he lamentably failed when he served as Vice President under late President Levy Mwanawasa.

New Congress Party (NCP) leader Peter Chanda recalled that Dr Mumba was unceremoniously fired by President Mwanawasa. and should just retire from politics,

Pastor Chanda was reacting to Dr Mumba’s statement that he was there to help President Lungu resolve political conflicts that existed in the country.

Dr Mumba was quoted by a local tabloid  as saying the idea behind his letters to President Lungu was to help resolve political conflicts in the country and not to heighten them.

Dr Mumba also urged President Lungu to legitimise his presidency as a matter of urgency, adding that Zambia was now at sea, trapped in a “corruption boat” without a captain.

But the NCP leader charged that Dr Mumba should be the last person to talk about helping resolve political conflicts because he was unceremoniously fired.

He said Dr Mumba was politically finished with long track records of grand failures, adding that he had extraordinary opportunities to serve the country but abused the privilege.

Pastor Chanda added that Dr Mumba failed the Zambian people with his poor decision-making and that he cannot be entrusted with public affairs.

“It is surprising that a man who was unceremoniously fired by the late President Levy Mwanawasa can today claim that he is there to help resolve political conflicts existing in the country and not to heighten them?”

“Dr Nevers Mumba was so overzealous that with President Mwanawasa out of the country, he convened a press conference to publicly discredit DRC, a move that sparked a diplomatic row with DRC protesting vigorously. And today he wants to claim to be a conflict resolver, How?” he wondered.

Pastor Chanda said that there was nothing to show for the time Dr Mumba was appointed Vice President during Dr Mwanawasa’s administration.
