Ndola deputy mayor probed?

NDOLA Deputy Mayor, Kennedy Kasaba, is to be investigated for alleged interference in the enforcement of public health laws.

This is contained in a petition filed in a motion by two ward councillors requesting Ndola City Council to set up a committee of inquiry to investigate the matter.

Mr. Kasaba has been accused by Ministry of Health and Ndola City Council Public health inspectors of having interfered in their routine inspection exercise at the Chinese owned shopping Mall known as Mei Mei.

The inspectors claim that they were prevented from seizing expired food discovered at one of the restaurants and shop at shopping complex situated along the  Ndola – Kitwe dual carriage way.

Sources at the council have disclosed that management was processing summons against the Deputy Mayor, who is also Kabushi ward councilor for the alleged offence.

And according to documents obtained by Daily Nation in Ndola, the motion was submitted to the office of the Ndola Town clerk, Wisdom Bwalya, by Pamodzi ward councilor Manase Siwila and Twapia ward councilor Gilbert Musonda.

“In accordance with the standing orders, we here by file in a notice motion asking management to institute a committee to take its course of investigations in the alleged interference by the Deputy Mayor.” read part of the letter.

The source stated that once the town clerk appended his signature, a committee would be instituted and investigations would be conducted to establish the levels of interference.
