NKANA striker Walter Bwalya has been slapped with a three match ban and fined K2, 200 for his violent conduct during the 2017 Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield final against Zesco United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on April 1.

Walter pleaded guilty before the FAZ disciplinary committee chaired by Joseph Jalasi yesterday at Football House.

FAZ communications manager Desmond Katongo said among the charges was the ungentlemanly conduct and use of abusive language.

“The charges include ungentlemanly conduct with a fine of K50, use of abusive language K100, contesting the referee’s decision K50, attacking the match official K1,000 and threatening of the official K1,000. Walter pleaded guilty to the charges,” he said.

Walter in an interview accepted the verdict by the disciplinary committee and promised not to repeat the mistake.

The Nkana goal poacher pushed referee Wellington Kaoma for giving his teammate defender Donashano Malama a red card during the final. Nkana lost 2-0 to Zesco. Walter is cited for using abusive language against the referee. ” It is a fair judgement and I accept the wrong doing. But I promise never to conduct myself in such a manner , it is the first and the last,” he said.

Nkana Football Club vice chairman Patrick Ndhlovu described the judgement as fair and called on the player to desist from such acts.

“Well it is a fair judgement for Walter. He was wrong and we accept what the Disciplinary Committee verdict, “It is just the immediate three matches. I am sure he has learnt a lesson and will not repeat such an act. The players should realize that discipline is vital, if they are not disciplined then the club cannot win the league,” he said.

He said the club will be ready to appear before the Disciplinary Committee if called over the unruly behavior of the supporters during the Charity Shield final.

He appealed to the Nkana fans not to resort to violent acts when aggrieved as that was working to the disadvantage of the team.

He said the sponsors were putting in colossal sums of money to maintain the stadium.

“Well, I don’t see why we need to appear before the disciplinary committee because the person who incited the fans has been charged. But if called upon, we have no option but to appear,” he said. Walter will miss the Nchanga , NAPSA and Zesco matches.
