Green Party cautions on CDF funding

By ROGERS KALERO

THE Party is not excited about the increasing of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K1.6million to K25 million because, in the past, the CDF has been an access of corruption and abuse,’ it’s President, Mr Peter Sinkamba has said.

Mr Sinkamba, however, said the increase in the CDF was one of the positive aspects in the 2022 budget of the ‘New Dawn’ government, but his party would eagerly wait to see what benefits it would bring to the ordinary Zambians.

Mr Sinkamba was reacting to the 2022 budget of the ‘New Dawn’ government of President Hakainde Hichilema which was presented on Friday , October 29, 2021 by Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane.

He said for a long time now, the CDF has failed to yield desirable results because it has been an access of corruption and abuse by political party cadres who in most cases were hijacking the whole issue.

“Yes, the increase of the CDF from K1.6 million to K25 million is one of the positive aspects in the 2022 budget but the problem is that it has been an access of corruption and abuse.

“This is why the fund has in most cases failed to come up with significant project to point at. So even if the funds are increased but nothing is done to ensure accountability and transparency, it will not yield desirable results,” Mr Sinkamba said.

Mr Sinkamba advised Zambians not to get excited about the basics in the budget but to find time to read and understand the budget so that they know what they should expect from the first budget of ‘New Dawn’ government.
