MKUSHI District Commissioner (DC) Luka Mwamba says he will soon issue a comprehensive statement on Mkushi community radio’s failure to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Mr. Mwamba told the Daily Nation in interview that he was concerned about reports that Mkushi community radio had never organised the AGM for the past two years and that the tenure of office for board members was over.

Mr. Mwamba said calls for the local radio station to hold the AGM had intensified because of the station’s failure to follow the constitution.

Mr. Mwamba said concerned stakeholders including traditional leaders and residents had been to his office to question why the station had failed to call for an AGM.

“It is in this regard that l will soon issue a statement to inform the public on the current position of the local media house and why the management is not calling for the AGM. I am following up the matter with interest.” Mr. Mwamba said.

Mr. Mwamba explained that community members were concerned because the station was owned by the community and they had a right to know what was going on.

And Imbalasa ye Lala ne Swaka Association secretary Getson Kapotesha dispelled claims that the station had failed to call for the AGM due to financial problems as a lame excuse.

Mr. Kapotesha said holding the AGM did not need colossal amount of money.

“If the station has no money, let it ask for contributions from the community and hold the AGM. The board is operating illegally, it has no blessings from the community.” Mr.Kvapotesha said.
